Job Title: Data Privacy Attorney 

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Washington, DC, is seeking a skilled Data Privacy Attorney to support cross-border data protection and privacy compliance initiatives. The role will focus on global regulatory requirements, data subject rights, vendor data handling, and international data transfer mechanisms. This position operates within the Information Governance function and partners with internal stakeholders across security, legal, and risk departments. Hybrid work flexibility is available.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with global privacy and compliance teams to assess data use projects and evaluate associated privacy risks.

  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and guide regional and international legal compliance.

  • Support responses to individual rights requests under laws such as GDPR, UK DPA, and U.S. state-level regulations.

  • Maintain and enhance internal documentation, including records of processing activities and data inventories.

  • Perform vendor due diligence and contract review related to personal data handling and transfer.

  • Review and update global privacy notices, disclosures, and internal protocols.

  • Assist with audits of firm operations to ensure privacy standards are upheld across jurisdictions.

  • Contribute to the maintenance and operationalization of Binding Corporate Rules and related governance activities.

  • Safeguard sensitive, confidential, and privileged data within internal processes.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in data protection law or related regulatory advisory work.

  • Prior experience advising on GDPR and other international data privacy frameworks.

  • Ability to manage cross-functional projects and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.

  • Familiarity with privacy rights management, compliance reporting, and data mapping tools.

  • Excellent communication skills with the capacity to advise stakeholders across multiple regions.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and advisory skills in a regulatory legal environment.

  • Effective communicator with a diplomatic and solutions-oriented mindset.

  • Proficiency in managing legal documentation, privacy reviews, and vendor engagements.

  • Detail-oriented approach to compliance documentation and policy drafting.

  • Adept at coordinating international teams and managing stakeholder input.
