Senior Immigration Attorney

Job Overview:
A San Jose-based law firm is seeking a highly experienced immigration attorney to take on a senior-level role within a well-established and expanding legal practice. This position offers a chance to lead complex immigration matters, mentor junior staff, and make a direct impact through courtroom advocacy and community engagement. The role is ideal for a professional with substantial experience in removal defense, family-based immigration, and USCIS procedures, and who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Duties:

  • Deliver in-depth consultations on immigration strategies and potential outcomes

  • Represent both detained and non-detained clients before the Immigration Court and BIA

  • Conduct legal intakes at detention centers and provide client representation

  • Prepare and revise applications for various immigration relief types

  • Guide clients and witnesses through preparation for court and USCIS testimony

  • Draft and file motions, legal briefs, and supporting documentation

  • Advise and collaborate with local law enforcement, prosecutors, and advocacy groups on immigration developments

  • Lead client strategy sessions and oversee immigration case lifecycles

  • Monitor ongoing legislative and procedural updates impacting immigration law

  • Supervise and contribute to the development of junior legal staff and legal assistants

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of focused immigration law experience

  • Strong courtroom advocacy and case management capabilities

  • High level of initiative and problem-solving aptitude

  • Familiarity with removal defense, family-based petitions, naturalization, humanitarian relief, and detained representation

  • Experience with legal case management software preferred

  • Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated commitment to immigration justice and client service

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Must be licensed and in good standing with at least one U.S. State Bar

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural competency

  • Capable of working both independently and in a team-oriented environment
