Job Title: Senior Insurance Coverage Counsel

Job Overview:
A San Francisco-based law firm is seeking a seasoned attorney to join its insurance coverage team. The ideal candidate will possess deep experience in handling complex coverage matters involving commercial general liability and excess policies. This role focuses on providing legal guidance and strategic analysis to insurers, including direct involvement in litigation, client advisory, and opinion drafting. The position requires independent management of casework and deadlines, and offers a hybrid or remote work environment based on experience.

Duties:

• Provide policy interpretation and strategic advice regarding coverage obligations

• Draft formal coverage opinions and client-facing advisory memoranda

• Conduct in-depth legal research and prepare analytical reports

• Draft and respond to pleadings, discovery, and motion practice related to coverage litigation

• Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and third parties for case coordination

• Attend depositions, hearings, mediations, and other legal proceedings

• Oversee timelines, case management, and reporting responsibilities

• Maintain high responsiveness to evolving client and litigation demands

Requirements:

• Active license to practice in California required; admission in Nevada, Oregon, or Washington a plus

• Demonstrated background in insurance coverage law and related litigation

• Strong written and verbal advocacy skills

• Proven ability to manage multiple high-stakes matters concurrently

• Solid legal judgment and analytical problem-solving abilities

• Comfortable working independently within a collaborative team structure

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

• Member in good standing of the California State Bar (additional admissions welcome)

Skills:

• Expertise in coverage, opinion drafting, and litigation strategy

• Proficient legal research capabilities using major legal databases

• Effective time management with a focus on deadline-driven work

• Clear and persuasive communication skills for both clients and court settings

• Capacity to maintain professionalism under pressure
