Job Overview:
A well-established and growing law firm is actively seeking a passionate and experienced Criminal Defense Attorney to join its legal team in Northern Illinois. This position involves managing a caseload of felony, misdemeanor, ordinance, and traffic-related matters from start to finish. The role is suited for a proactive, courtroom-ready attorney who is committed to helping clients navigate the complexities of the legal system with professionalism, empathy, and diligence.

Location:

  • Joliet, IL

Duties:

  • Conduct client intake and legal strategy sessions to understand case goals

  • Represent clients in felony, misdemeanor, ordinance, conservation violation, and traffic cases

  • Draft and review legal documents including motions, pleadings, and discovery

  • Conduct legal research and case analysis to formulate defense strategies

  • Appear in municipal, county, and village courts for hearings and trials

  • Maintain regular communication with clients and provide legal counsel throughout the case

  • Collaborate with other attorneys and staff to manage cases effectively

  • Handle administrative and case-related responsibilities as needed

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois (active and in good standing)

  • Reliable transportation for travel to various court locations

  • Willingness to manage a fast-paced and emotionally sensitive caseload

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a legal team

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required

Certifications:

  • Active Illinois Bar license

Skills:

  • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills

  • Effective oral advocacy and courtroom presence

  • Ability to manage multiple active cases under tight deadlines

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and client-relations skills

  • Knowledge of legal strategies and ability to tailor defense plans to individual clients

  • Experience with legal software and office applications

  • Professional demeanor with strong organizational and time-management abilities

  • Experience as a prosecutor or work in a State’s Attorney’s Office is a plus
